BassAwards is born from the premise of rewarding one of the disciplines of design in recent years that has grown exponentially, that of the broadcast design. Many contests pay attention to this discipline within their ranks but they are very generic when creating unique categories where commercial, identities, animations, etc. are competing.

BassAwards is the awards program that rewards high-profile broadcast the best design around the world, ranging from film to television. The visual design becomes a competitive advantage within the industry, improving products and making them more profitable. Whether in film or television identities, creativity and visual design convey ideas, philosophies and stories that help improve a product.

The Awards will be open for entries from 1st October 2012 to 31st December 2012.

CATEGORIES

BassAwards beholds 3 different categories: Professional Category, Best Social and Best Young Talent. Each of them has specific requirements and conditions.

PROFESSIONAL CATEGORIES

These categories seek to identify the best commissioned pieces or conducted by professional studios, freelancers and televisions.

Within the professional categories are 4 sections – TV Channel, Film & TV Series, Mapping and Videogames -, further divided into specific subcategories.

TV CHANNEL

Best Original Logo Design

Logo designed for a TV programme, TV event, channel or platform. The ideal entry is a vid with a compilation of logo animations to illustrate look and feel.

Maximum length: 2 mins.

Best Channel Branding Design

Best on-air branding design for a channel, platform or service. One vid that illustrates on-air package look and feel (idents, bumpers, straplines, pack-shots…) The ideal entry is a compilation of the work.

Maximum length: 2 mins.

Best Ident/Interstitial/Bumper

Any single piece designed specifically to bridge gaps between programmes reinforcing the brand (Not promo videos).

Maximum length: 2 mins.

Best Special Day/Event Promo

Any single graphic, animation or visual fx promo designed specifically to promote any film, programme, campaign or event on a special day/event.

Maximum length: 2 mins.

Best Movie Promo

Any single graphic, animation or visual fx movie promo.

Maximum length: 2 mins.

Best TV Series Promo

Any single graphic, animation or visual fx TV series promo.

Maximum length: 2 mins.

Best Sport Promo

Any single graphic, animation or visual fx sport promo.

Maximum length: 2 mins.

Best Promo Ever

Any single graphic, animation or visual fx promo designed specifically to promote any film, programme, campaign or event. The best promo.

Maximum length: 2 mins.

Best Programme Branding Design

On-air elements used to brand a programme. It must include a title or opening sequence and any other design element. The ideal entry is a compilation of the work to see the look and feel.

Maximum length: 2 mins.

 

FILMS & TV SERIES

Best Film Credits Sequence // FILMS

A single graphic, animation or visual fx sequence that develops the beginning or the end of a film, short film or documentary.

Maximum length: 2 mins.

Best Opening Sequence// TV SERIES

A single graphic, animation or visual fx sequence that develops the beginning of a TV series.

Maximum length: 4 mins.

 

MAPPING

Best Mapping

The action recording / mapping projection will be presented- mapping understood as an adaptation of a video content to 3D. The submitted video can be a compilation of the best moments of a longer production.

Maximum length: 5 mins.

 

VIDEOGAMES

Best Opening Sequence

A single graphic, animation or visual fx sequence that develops the beginning or an animated sequence of the videogame.

Maximum length: 4 mins.

 

BEST SOCIAL Y BEST YOUNG TALENT

Both the category Best Social as the Best Young Talent are special categories that look towards enhancing and promoting good design, favouring society and the environment, rewarding new talents and entities that promote a better world.

Best Social // SOCIAL CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY

A single graphic, animation or visual fx video that develops a social/ecological campaign for an institution, company or organization.

Maximum length: 3 mins.

Best Young Talent – Students in last course

A single graphic, animation or visual fx student work that develops the skills of the new talent.

Students may register last works/projects or works carried out throughout 2012. No reel is accepted.

Maximum length: 1 min.

SELECTION CRITERIA

PROFESSIONAL CATEGORIES

Each category has specific selection criteria, which apply to each of the subcategories within them.

TV Channel

Quality in design, fitting and enhancing objectives and themes appropriate to the category.

Title credits

Quality in design, fitting and enhancing objectives and movie or series plot, originality and visual impact.

Mapping

Adaptation and integration to the physical environment, quality of design and content production.

Videogames

Quality in design, adjust, adapt and enhance the game’s plot, originality and visual impact. Integration with the game.

BEST SOCIAL AND BEST YOUNG TALENT

The assessment of these categories will be carried out as follows: 60% of the points corresponds to the average of ratings given by the professional jury. On the other hand, 40% of the final score will be the result obtained by popular vote, to be held through www.bassawards.org.

Adequacy of social message (tone, speech, script); appropriateness of design, animation and visual impact with the values to be transmitted.

Concept and script of the piece; adequacy of technical quality in design and development of the piece.

 

BassAwards reserves the right to qualify / disqualify a film for the awards if the information provided by the applicant is proven to be false.


TROPHIES & CERTIFICATES

BassAwards rewards winners with genuine certificates and trophies that attest to the professionalism and excellence in design, which stand as benchmarks in the field of Broadcast Design.

Of the 15 finalists*, only the 7 best valued by the jury, will be awarded 1 GOLD,  1 SILVER and 5 BRONZE awards.

They (the company/student/ nonprofit entity who make the entry) will receive:

*15 is our desirable number, but BassAwards always rewards excellence in design so this number is likely to be reduced if the works submitted don’t comply with the requirements.

**Duplicate awarded trophies and certificates are available upon request and the payment of 200€ or 246US$ per thophy (shipping costs not included).

Notes:

-Trophies of all categories -Best Social and Best Young Talent included- will be sent around Mars 2013.

-Winners will receive the certificates and labels within one month after the publication of the results by category.
